2024 Hamilton Girls Hawkey Tournament - Rules

  1. The tournament will conform to the regulations and rules of the O.W.H.A. and the C.H.A. rules for female hockey.
  2. ONE TEAM REPRESENTATIVE MUST REGISTER ONE HOUR PRIOR TO FIRST GAME. All pick-ups must be designated on the team rosters and approved by the O.W.H.A. AND Tournament Committee. Teams must submit their signed pick-up consent forms before the first game of the tournament. Pick-up players (O.W.H.A. Rules)
  3. Each team in will be guaranteed four games in the tournament.
  4. 4. Each game for Midget AA, and Midget A will consist of 12-12-15 minute stop periods;  Bantam AA and A all other divisions will be 10-10-12 minute stop period  In house league play where there is a goal differential of more than 5 after the second period the game will be run time and will remain run time until the goal differential is less than 3. Points will be awarded as follows: 2 points for a win, 1 point for a tie and 0 points for a loss.
  5. If there is a tie in points after the preliminary round games, the following criteria will be used to break the tie:
  • Number of wins
  • Record against other tied teams (used if only 2 teams are tied)
  • Goals scored minus the goals against in preliminary round play
  • Fewest goals allowed in preliminary round play
  • Most goals scored in preliminary round play
  • Fewest penalty minutes in preliminary round play
  • Flip of a coin
  1. Teams are advised to warm up in their dressing rooms. A 3 minute timed warm-up will be set on the clock as soon as the ice is ready. Glove Taps will be done at the end of the game.
  2. One - 30 second time out per team will be allowed in Semi-final and Championship Final games only.
  3. CHAMPIONSHIP FINALS, SEMI FINALS AND QUARTER FINALS: IF THE GAME IS TIED AT THE END OF REGULATION PLAY TEAMS WILL PLAY ONE FIVE (5) MINUTE SUDDEN VICTORY PERIOD 4 ON 4. Teams will not switch ends at the end of the 3rd period.
  4. If the score is still tied the following shoot out will take place:
  • Each team will designate their shooters and the order they will shoot before the start of the game (entire team)
  • The first three shooters from each team will shoot, one from each team simultaneously, total goals for all three shooters
  • If still tied a sudden death shootout will take place
  • No one can shoot twice until all players have shot once
  • No player serving a penalty will be allowed in the shoot-out, her spot in the pre-assigned shooting order will be taken out and all other players will move up one spot
  • No changes in the order will be allowed once the game has begun
  1. Teams must be at the arena at least 1 hour before their scheduled game time and prepare to go on the ice 20 minutes before the scheduled time if requested by the tournament committee.
  2. Flooding of the ice between games will be at the discretion of the tournament committee.
  3. All players must wear properly fastened helmet whenever they are on the ice, even during the presentation awards.
  4. Awards will be presented to the Champion and Runner up teams of each division.
  5. O.W.H.A. MINIMUM SUSPENSIONS WILL BE OBSERVED.
  6. Home teams will wear light coloured jerseys; in the event of a conflict, the home team will switch jerseys.
  7. Coaches must designate C’s, A’s and the goalies and Coaches and Trainers # on the game sheet before each game.
